Rules For Use of Grain Drills

  • Grease drill before use.
  • Be sure that the drive pin is in right transport wheel and is disengaged before transporting.
  • Engage drive pin all the way in before planting.
  • Make sure double disc openers are free of debris and dirt before returning to the service center.
  • Make sure before returning grain drill that the planting units are lifted out of the ground.

Proper Cleaning and Lubrication of Grain Drill Prior to Returning to SWCD Office

  • Vacuum excess seed out of seed boxes. Do not use water to clean inside of seed boxes.
  • Use vacuum or compressed air to remove excess seed from feed rolls. Do not use water on feed rolls.
  • Pressure wash frame, coulters, disc openers (make sure depth rings are clean), and packer wheels. Be sure to remove all soil and debris.
  • Grease all coulters and torsion knuckles that allow coulters to pivot.
  • Grease fittings on top of main frame.

Important Cleaning and Inspection Notice

Cleaning and lubrication will be thoroughly inspected prior to returning the deposit to the customer. Failure to properly clean and/or lubricate the drill will result in forfeiture of the deposit. Any damage to the drill due to negligence on the part of the user will be deducted from the deposit. If repairs exceed the amount of the deposit, the user will be billed for the remaining balance. Drill inspection and deposit return may take 5–10 business days.
Should the renter plan to utilize another individual to operate the grain drill, the name of that operator must be given to the DeSoto SWCD District Administrator.
The DeSoto SWCD reserves the right to deny use of the drill to any individual or organization at its sole discretion.
